Before You Register…

Before you register, there are a few items you will want to know to be able to properly fill out your form.

San Diego AAZK is offering you the opportunity to sign up for various events and workshops before you arrive. Because many of these items will have limited spaces, by registering early you are able to guarantee your participation in various activities.

Please consider the following options that you will need for your registration.

Conference registration details:

Full registration includes entrance to the icebreaker, all paper sessions, various workshops, Zoo Day, Awards and Banquet Dinner, and a conference T-shirt.

Would you like to purchase full registration or daily registration for an AAZK member or non-member? Cost $200 vs $275.       

Would you like to purchase daily registration? For which day(s)? Cost $75 per day.

Would you like to purchase a ticket for the ice breaker at the Safari Park only? This event will take place on August 24, 2011. Cost $75 per person.

Would you like to purchase a ticket for the Awards Banquet only? This event will take place at the Westin Gaslamp Hotel on Sunday, August 28, 2011. Cost $75 per person.

Would you like to purchase conference T-shirts? What size? Cost $15 each.

Would you like to purchase tickets for our pre and/or post conference trips?
            a. August 23, 2011: SeaWorld San Diego. Donation of $70. Only 50 spaces available.
            b. August 24, 2011: Safari Park photo caravan. Cost $35. Limited spaces available. These 45 min to 1 hour tours will take place prior to the conference icebreaker.
            c. August 29, 2011: Lions Tigers & Bears, CA Wolf Center, and Julian Winery trip. Cost $60. Limited to 38 spaces.

Workshop sign ups.
There are costs for certain workshops and all are limited to 25 spaces unless otherwise specified. Workshops with costs include all materials and transportation. We are rotating the times for some of the workshops to offer the most availability.

Workshops are divided into 7 categories: Husbandry, Professional Growth, Vet Care, Safety, Communication, Nutrition, and Behavior.

Workshops are listed as tracks when you register. Please keep in mind that a category (ex. behavior, enrichment, and welfare) may be listed multiple times under various titles so be sure to view the day and time because you may not be able to register under one topic (like hoofstock enrichment) but can under another (like red panda  enrichment). These workshops will cover all taxas but for those following a certain track, are listed under specific tracks.

 Zoo Day Behind-The-Scene (BTS) Experiences. August 26, 2011. During this day there will be various BTS opportunities. All areas will have limited spaces but will be offered at least twice to offer more visitation opportunities. Be sure to sign up for times that will not conflict or you may be dropped from the system. There are 3 workshops offered at the zoo that will conflict with some BTS times. Please check your workshop schedule before signing up for any BTS’s.

During Zoo Day, breakfast will be offered from 8:00 am until 9:00 am in the Zoo’s ZPA, along with animal meet and greets, and a welcome from the San Diego Zoo’s Executive Team.

Lunch will also be offered in the ZPA from 11:00 until 12:00 along with a welcome from Executive Team members.

Merchandise discounts of 20% will be offered to all delegates wearing a conference badge.
A 25% discount will be offered at all Zoo food stands and restaurants, including Albert’s restaurant.

At 12:00 pm there will be a special bus tour highlighting the Zoo’s extensive botanical collection. Meeting place for the botanical tour will be determined at a later date.

At 2:00 pm there will be a special bus tour that will visit various BTS areas. Meeting space will be specified in the conference packet and will be limited to 80 people.

Please choose the BTS that best fit your schedule. Remember to give yourself time to travel from one BTS to the next; the zoo is large and you will need time to get from one area to the next. Numbers indicate how many people the area is limited to and each BTS will last at least 20 minutes.
